Ashland County was formed out of Richland, Huron, Lorain, and Wayne Counties. William Montgomery had laid out Uniontown in 1815. The name, Uniontown was changed to Ashland in 1822. Ashland City was incorporated in 1844. The first Monday in April, 1846 the county seat was located at Ashland. You may copy this information for your own personal research.

April 1, 1811 Coshocton County was organized from Muskingum County. Coshocton County reached its present boundaries in 1825. It is derived from the Delaware Indian word, goschachgunk meaning union of the waters.
